On July 3, the Armenian United Nations Association hosted an event to advocate human rights in Armenia. The workshop was on gender mainstreaming and environmental lens in Armenia and brought together specialized youth representatives from the regions of Armavir, Aragatsotn, Shirak and Lori. The training involved a mixture of theoretical and practical knowledge to spark debate and discussion. |
The youth representatives have been implementing projects regarding Human Rights in their respective regions. Discussion involved the current progress of their projects and what needs to be done to insert gender mainstreaming and environmental lens into their activities.
The trainees worked on their result matrices to design gender sensitive indicators. In line with that, they were equipped with the skills to analyze their projects from the environmental perspective. As one of the participants mentioned, “if all organizations use gender mainstreaming and environmental lens in their projects, after some years there will be no need to have special projects on environment and on gender equality. These strategies have great positive externalities”
Thus far, regional implementation of projects has been going well and representatives are pleased with the results of their initiatives. It is exciting to see how the use of today’s discussion will lead to stronger and larger initiatives regarding gender mainstreaming and environmental rights here in Armenia!
