UN 60th Anniversary
A range of events dedicated to the United Nations 60th Anniversary Celebration was initiated and conducted by the Armenian UN Association and United Nations Armenia office.
The following celebrations and events were organized:
Gala-Concert dedicated to the UN’s 60th Anniversary On September 17, 2005 AUNA and UN Armenia launched a new project within the framework of the UN’s 60th Anniversary in Armenia, which was the organization of the open-door Gala-concert in the Republican Square.
A new song "We Make Our History" and clip on this song was produced specially for this event with participation of 26 Armenian pop stars, such as Hayko, Shushan Petrosyan, Andre, Goga, etc. The same singers participated at the Gala-concert with their hits. A film was produced on the concert.
1st Chess Festival - UN Cup Tournament
On September 24, 2005 for the first time ever a Chess Festival – UN Cup Tournament was initiated by Karen Asatryan, AUNA president and organized in the territory of Cascade, Yerevan by joint efforts of AUNA, UN Armenia, Chess Academy of Armenia and Chess Federation of Armenia. 45 adults including international organizations staff, Mass Media, NGO sector and about 40 children representing chess clubs from various regions of Armenia participated in this tournament. Three International Grand Masters A. Anastasyan, K. Asryan and T. Petrosyan ran a simultaneous game with 45 adult participants respectively. Children competed with each other for the UN Cup in blitz tournament. The winners among children were awarded with the UN Cup and monetary prizes. A considerable PR Campaign was launched for this event. The tournament was represented and opened by Ms Consuelo Vidal, UN Resident Representative in Armenia and Mr. Serge Sargsyan, President of the Armenian Chess Federation. AUNA organized the broadcasting of the Chess Festival on "Yerevan TV" Channel.
Essay Contest on MDGs On October 24, 2005, the UN Armenia Office hosted the awards ceremony for the winners of the Republican Contest of Essays, an event dedicated to the UN 60th Celebration, and organized by AUNA in partnership with Project Harmony Armenia Country Office. 330 schools were selected from the Project Harmony school network and sent the topics for essays according to the UN MDGs. About 110 essays were submitted. A joint commission comprised of members of AUNA and Project Harmony selected the winners, eight in total: 1-first, 2-second and 5-third places. The gifts were prepared and presented by the UN Armenia Office, AUNA and Project Harmony Armenia Country Office respectively.
Painting Contest on UN 60th Anniversary
AUNA jointly with the National Center of Aesthetics organized Painting Contest among the children of the studio-college dedicated to the UN 60th anniversary. 35 children, between the ages 4-14, submitted about 80 works and the best 46 of them were selected for a two-week exhibition at the UN Armenia Office hall. Batique made by 24 children of the studio-college and represented during the exhibition may, indeed, be considered as a masterpiece.
UN 60th Anniversary
A range of events dedicated to the UN 60th Anniversary Celebration was concluded by the classical concert at the Arno Babajanyan Concert Hall with the performance of the "Komitas" quartet, "Hover" choir and children of Vl. Spivakov’s Foundation. Concert was attended by the RA Government members, diplomatic staff and celebrities and civil society representative.
